“Charity Never Faileth” stems from the first Relief Society meeting. The sisters were asked by the Prophet Joseph Smith to assist the brethren “in looking to the wants of the poor—searching after objects of charity, and in administering to their wants.”

Service: VISITING OSCAR'S DAD--Holiday Style

The holiday season is just around the corner and we need you! If you are interested in visiting Antonio Olaya (Elder Oscar Olaya's father) during the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and anytime in between, please let us know. We specifically need to see if anyone is around on Christmas Day to help coordinate the wondrous missionary phone call home. I'm not sure what your role would be for the phone call (I'm getting details as we speak), but don't fret--you don't need to be a Spanish speaker. If you are interested in helping out during the holidays, please shoot me an email or give me a call. Thanks!

Quote

"Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don't judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone's differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn't handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another's weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us. Charity is expecting the best of each other."

Service: Harlem Day!

Harlem Day, on August 16, is a street fair which celebrates Harlem's history. This is the 6th year our Stake has participated in Harlem Day by sharing genealogy, in particular the availability of African-American Records, with the Harlem Community. The event is a successful public outreach effort for our church, as well as an enriching service opportunity.
We need lots of help from members of our stake in various ways:

  1. We need volunteers to provide laptops for their shift (or duration, if possible) to help patrons search the records
  2. We need volunteers to sit at the laptops and teach patrons how to search genealogy records and help them start a pedigree chart
  3. Volunteers will also stand outside the booth to help draw attendees to our FREE services
If you'd like an opportunity to be a member missionary in a unique way and serve the Harlem community by helping them search for their ancestors, this is for you. We have a ton of fun each year, and our success is dependent on the many volunteers from the stake.

Our ward has been asked to provide 10-15 volunteers and 8-10 computers (PC's only) for Sunday, Aug. 16th, from 10:30am-12:45pm. To sign up, please contact Camas Hunter at camas.hunter@gmail.com

Looking for a job? The Stake and Ward are here to help.

Looking for a job?...Pease submit an email to nyny-stake-employment@googlegroups.com. Include name, ward, and a general description of what you are looking for, include a little bit about your current situation and experience you may have to help as others review the list. Your name will be added to the stake employment list that goes out every week to ward leaders. Don't worry your actual name will not be on the list but instead an ID number generated by the stake. Wards review the list frequently and will contact the stake with leads or networking opportunities that might be available based on your listing.

Contact Jen Fernie. She can inform you of resources and events she is aware of as the ward employment specialist. jfernie@mac.com
